7.) Go Topless Day

Here's one that isn't strictly limited to NYC (there are about 9 other cities doing the same thing). It's called "Go Topless Day." On August 26th of each year (also Women's Equality Day), a group of women get together in Central Park, topless, and make speeches and hand out literature about a woman's right to be topless in public (it's legal in NYC!).

I had the pleasure (or, so I thought) of witnessing this one day on my walk to the subway. There are about 15 or 20 women, all topless, and a huge crowd of guys taking pictures. It was a lot sadder than I imagined it would be.

But, here's where it gets weird. These ladies are not your everyday nudists; they belong to a UFO religion called Raelism (Link). This religion believes that all humans are clones of an extraterrestrial race, all prophets (Jesus, Mohammad, Buddha, etc.) were created by an alien and a human having sex, and, eventually, most dead people will be resurrected, based on information on their alien computers, and punished for their past sins.

So, unfortunately, it's not just a bunch of naked ladies frolicking around. They have pamphlets and shit.
